E-commerce software makers Ariba and InterWorld today announced a marketing and technology alliance to provide online selling and collaborative trading software. Under the terms of the agreement, InterWorld will integrate its sell-side Commerce Exchange technology together with the Ariba Network product. The combined offering is targeted towards suppliers who want a business-to-business e-commerce environment for online sales and order processing with integration into the Ariba Network marketplace. Ariba and InterWorld will also jointly invest in marketing and sales tools to promote the combined Ariba and InterWorld package to each other's customers and customers' suppliers. In addition, the two companies will develop a competency center to demonstrate the capabilities of buyer-seller integration to customers. ***

Actra Business Systems, the newest arrival on the Internet commerce scene, today debuted its first e-commerce software product after more than a year of development. As previously reported by CNET's NEWS.COM, Actra announced that it's shipping a family of EDI software called CrossCommerce, which works over the Internet. If not for Actra's pedigree, CrossCommerce's debut wouldn't draw much attention. The company is a joint venture of Internet powerhouse Netscape Communications (NSCP) and GE Information Systems, the biggest player in the EDI world and a unit of deep-pocketed General Electric ***
