Etelos and Six Apart Ltd announced the availability of the Movable Type social publishing platform as an on-demand hosted service through the Etelos Syndication Partner Program. Movable Type will be distributed via multiple Software as a Service (SaaS) marketplaces that utilize the Etelos Platform Suite. This partnership makes it easy for millions of small and medium business customers to support their business operations by starting a social website on Movable Type. Customers can simply select Movable Type from a marketplace and begin using it within minutes.

Web Office vendor Etelos announced recently that it is enabling enterprise customers to white-label the Etelos platform, via a multi-product offering called the Etelos Platform Suite (detailed below). Up till now, Etelos has been a company that offers a wide range of apps and services to developers and vendors - it took care of everything from billing to customer management. Most of that service offering was done via a proprietary platform. Essentially, now Etelos is letting other companies use that platform to do the very same thing.

This represents a fundamental shift for the company as it focuses on enabling enterprises to implement their own Software as a Service applications and Marketplaces, as well as syndicated distribution channels. Etelos has long enabled applications to be distributed via the Web and this new offering is exposing the core platform to enterprises for greater benefit to their end users. On the surface, this signifies a departure from a core direct marketing focus on the Etelos Marketplace(TM). Etelos will begin supplying software makers and vendors with their own custom implementation of a SaaS Marketplace and platforms for distribution and channel management. Etelos has today announced Etelos Share, a new product that that provides a virtual-hosted server for businesses. The Etelos Share application allows a business to share and store documents internally using a hosted solution, with access to their virtual host through a local drive. The file sharing, storage and backup solution is a new addition to the Etelos suite of products which includes on-demand application hosting of many popular applications.

Web application distributor Etelos has released a new feature in beta that allows web apps obtained through the site to operate offline. The company, which provides a marketplace for developers to provide apps to consumers, also says that all applications with the new technology will be able to communicate securely with one another.
